Quiet Sudoku is made by Greg Roy. Your notebook lives on your device. Daily comparison is the optional online feature described below.

Your local notebook

Puzzles are included with the app. Saved games, boards, notes, history and settings are stored locally and work offline. Quiet Sudoku has no account system, advertising, purchases, advertising identifiers, analytics SDKs or cross-app tracking. It does not provide automatic cloud sync. Your operating system’s own device backup settings may include local app data.

Daily comparison

“Compare with other players” is on by default and can be turned off in Settings. When you finish today’s ranked puzzle with comparison enabled, the app sends the following to quiet-sudoku-api.gregsplace.cc:

The app also sends the player ID, date and difficulty when requesting comparison results. We use these records to compare scores and times for the same puzzle and count each player’s result once. Comparison does not send your name, email address, contacts, location, puzzle board or pencil notes. The player ID is persistent until reset, so results under that ID can be associated with one another; it is not an account or your device’s advertising ID.

Our server receives an IP address when a request is made. Standard server access logs include IP addresses, request paths (which can contain the player ID), request times and response information for operation and troubleshooting. Logs are rotated by size rather than a fixed number of days, so their retention period depends on service traffic. We do not use them for advertising or profiling. Network and hosting providers process requests to deliver the service.

Your comparison choices

Turn off “Compare with other players” in Settings to stop future comparison requests and result uploads. Existing server records are not removed by switching it off.

“Reset comparison identity” discards the current player ID and creates a new ID for future results. It does not delete past results. Comparison records remain on the server; there is currently no automatic expiry or in-app deletion of those records. Contact [email protected] with questions about data or deletion. Because the app has no account or contact details attached to results, we may need additional information to identify the relevant records.

Backups you choose to share

Export creates a readable JSON file containing your sessions, results and settings. The app does not encrypt this file. You choose where to save or share it using the operating system’s share sheet; that destination’s privacy practices then apply. Import uses the system document picker and asks before replacing your notebook. Quiet Sudoku does not automatically upload backups to us.

Support and this website

If you email us, we receive your email address and the information you choose to send. We use it to respond and troubleshoot. These Quiet Sudoku pages do not embed analytics or advertising scripts; the hosting provider still processes ordinary web requests.
